Betfred Championship Round Up | Round 3

Betfred Championship Round Up | Round 3

Halifax Panthers remain as the only side with a 100% record in the Betfred Championship after an away victory at York on Sunday.

The two sides met last weekend in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup, with the Knights taking the spoils on that occasion, however, today did not follow suit.

George Whitby scored the only try in the opening 40 minutes, as well as a penalty from Louis Jouffret which gave the Panthers an 8-0 lead.

Jouffret extended Halifax’s lead early in the second half.

New Knights signing, Ben Jones-Bishop scored on his second debut for the club, before Oli Field set up a grandstand finish as the Knights got to within two points with just seven minutes remaining.

Brandon Douglas forced his way over at the death, as Kyle Eastmond’s side open up a two-point gap at the top of the Championship table.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Oldham suffered their first defeat of 2025.

Tee Ritson opened the scoring for the Cumbrian side, before a penalty shortly after extended their lead to 8-0.

A second penalty extended their lead further, before the Roughyeds struck back courtesy of Riley Dean. The sides went into the break at 10-6 to the Raiders.

Andrew Bulman and Aaron Smith added tries in the second half, as Barrow went to record their second win of the season.

Doncaster bounced back from defeat with an impressive away win at Hunslet.

The Dons raced into a 24-0 lead at the break after tries through Pauli Pauli, Bureta Faraimo, Watson Boas and a brace from Reece Lyne.

Both sides scored two tries apiece in the second half, with Doncaster returning to South Yorkshire with a 38-10 success.

Batley Bulldogs came from behind to beat Widnes at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium.

The Bulldogs trailed early in the second half 14-6.

Joe Arundel hit back for the hosts, before Widnes added a further try.

Welsh international Elliot Kear crossed for Batley, before two tries from Leigh loanee Brad Martin, as Batley recorded a 28-20 victory.

The final game on Sunday, saw an away victory for Sheffield Eagles as they defeated Featherstone Rovers 19-12.

Morgan Smith scored either side of a Jordan Williams try, which gave Craig Lingard’s Eagles side.

A Cory Aston penalty extended Sheffield lead to 14-6 just before the break.

After a cagey second half, the first points were finally scored with under 15 minutes to go. Former Super League full-back, Jack Walker went over for his first Eagles try.

King Vuinyayawa got the score back to six after powering over, but Aston’s drop-goal made sure of an away success.

Benjamin Laguerre scored a hat-trick for Toulouse on Saturday, as Olympique dismantled Bradford Bulls 36-4.

The victory sees Toulouse overtake the Bulls in the table and move into third after just three matches.
